Using cut-out bin vinyl samples and urban nature video, The Collection Agency take the familiar and transform it into something unexpected and sublime. With the typical tools of live VJ/DJ performance (laptop, turntables, CDJs, effects), the duo finds a way to spin unconventional experimental narratives out of inspired collective improvisation. Zarah Cabañas’s lush, painterly visuals work in perfect harmony with the dub-inspired soundscapes of Paul Amitai, as their live set often shifts through a variety of moods – from sparse, sun-dappled textures to thick sheets of distortion and deep, watery rhythmic pulses.
